Announcing Nilesh Naran speaking at researchED

This session explores how schools can better prepare students for independent study by explicitly teaching study habits and self-regulation, rather than assuming these skills develop naturally. Set within a wider school focus on effective study skills, the session draws on work with Year 11 students as a deliberate preparation phase for the increased independence required in senior years, particularly when students gain a study line in Year 13. The session argues that the primary barrier to effective independent study is not student ability or subject knowledge, but poorly established habits. Attendees will examine how structured study plans and the deliberate teaching of effective habits can support students to use high-impact strategies when teacher direction is reduced. Practical examples and implications for classroom practice will be shared
